Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering in the McKelvy School of Engineering

Martha Hasting is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Systems Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis.  As a mathematician in the School of Engineering, her focus is teaching the engineering students the math they need for their advanced engineering courses.  Teaching is her passion, and she has received several teaching awards throughout the years, including the Guido Weiss Teaching Award (from the WU Department of Mathematics), the EnCouncil Professor of the Year Award (from the Engineering School’s Student Council), and the Dean’s Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching (from the Engineering School).  Presentations have included “Teaching: Principles and Tips,” “Spring Motion,” and “The Monty Hall Problem.”

Professor Hasting has BS and BSE degrees in Mathematics from Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University), and she received her MS and PhD degrees in Mathematics from St. Louis University.  She and her husband Kevin have three daughters (Corey, Theresa, and Mihaela) and four grandchildren (Jada, Isaiah, Preston, and Noah).  They are members of MiddleTree Church in St. Louis.
