Gregory Murphy, MD

Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Urologic Surgery

Greg Murphy is a disciple of Jesus and an associate professor in the Department of Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. Greg works in the Division of Urology and specializes in genitourinary trauma and reconstructive surgery. His practice is focused on improving quality of life for those suffering with urinary and sexual side effects after traumatic injury or oncologic treatments. He commonly treats patients with urethral and ureteral stricture disease, incontinence, fistula and neurogenic bladder, offering interventions involving implanted devices as well as flap or graft-related reconstructive surgeries to improve genitourinary function.

Greg’s involvement in medical education includes directing the fellowship for reconstructive surgery and directing the medical student clerkship. His research interests involve reconstructive surgery, especially studying manual dexterity with urologic implants.

Greg is originally from the New England area. He grew up in Massachusetts and received a B.A. in Biology at Tufts University where he met his wife Emily. Greg went to UMass for medical school and UConn for Urology Residency. He completed a fellowship in Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery at UCSF and began his practice at WashU in 2017.

Greg and his wife Emily have 3 children, James, Cecilia, and Liv. Greg is inspired by the writing and teaching of Dallas Willard, which led he and Emily to complete a 2-year spiritual formation program at the Renovaré Institute in 2023. They attend church at The Journey West County, where Greg enjoys leading retreats and teaching classes on science and faith, prayer, and spiritual formation.
